While we do not support online piracy or theft, we also do not support a bill that has been constructed to censor the internet in any way that could destroy a business just on the arbitrary say so of another company.
The initial concept of SOPA sound fine until you see that the bill allows for unregulated bans on any infringement of what they term theft or piracy.
So, what happens to a site that is in violation? Here are just a few things. Internet service providers will be required to block your access to the site within five days. Search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) will be forced to remove all references to the offending sites from their indexes. Ad providers (Google AdSense, Federated Media, etc.) will be required to stop providing ad service to the site. Payment providers (PayPal, Visa, etc.) will be required to terminate service to the site. So, how does this affect us or the anime/sci-fi community?
Conventions could possibly be affected under SOPA, as companies could request bans on the IPs of sites that host music videos or artwork that involves anime or sci-fi.
Let’s say that a convention does a show that has characters from anime/sci-fi in them and requires you to try out for the part. The convention then posts pictures of the characters so you know what parts or characters are available. Under SOPA, piracy or theft could be considered just for just posting an actual picture of a character that is used in their tryouts page. Now, imagine your favorite convention having their site shut off by a provider, their existence removed from search engines, and PayPal shutting their accounts off. And all this can happen under SOPA without any due process or warning. While it hasn't happened yet, rampant, unregulated occurrence of this could become commonplace and could affect the entire industry we know and love so well.
We will not be participating in the online strike. While we believe in the merits of stopping a bill that can arbitrarily have web sites shut down, we will not be stopping services that our customers have paid for.
They are businesses that have a right and freedom to exit. Shutting MyConsOnline services off to them would not only hamper their sales but also take away access to the entire community of people that look forward to attending these conventions and participating in them. We believe in what the strike stands for but we cannot participate in it as we will not arbitrarily shut off our customer’s access. While we will not be a part of the online strike, we do urge everybody to take a very close look at this bill and do what they can to make sure everybody understands what we stand to lose in regards to the internet and what freedoms are really at stake.

Want to get in on the action you see whenever you visit a cool stage show event?
Well here's your chance! Khaotic Kon is holding it's first ever casting call for anyone interesting in participating in any of our events.
Tryouts for all Khaotic Kon events are set to take place December 3-4 and December 10 -11 at 10:00am and 2:00pm. All persons interested must attend only one of the listed tryout dates Tryout Location : Lowry Park Shelter #118 Participants must come with the completed tryout form located HERE. Please attach a photo of yourself to your form. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. Participants under the age of 18 must have their tryout form notarized and signed by a parent or legal guardian. Audition day will begin with an orientation and then proceed into the audition process. This includes, but is not limited to
Vocal Performance Physical Fitness Flexibility Dancing Ability Singing Ability Tips:
Bring water Wear sunscreen Do not eat a large amount of food before tryouts Come ready to test your vocal talents Video Auditions for Khaotic Kon Events Submissions:
Video Auditioning for any of the Khaotic Events is reserved for those wanting to audition but will be busy or out of town for the auditioning weekend (we prefer if you try out in person). This does not mean that the auditioner will be excused from following the same guide lines as the rest of the cast and will also not excuse any following absences if given a role.
UPDATE: Important Tryout Information Anyone interested in a singing role for the musical should come prepared with a song to perform for our casting table. If you do not have one ready we will be providing one for you, we will also have a boom box ready for use with Ipod/Mp3. (NOTE: You can sing in character if you find it appropriate)
